The Siddhartha Vihar Trust is a public, charitable and education trust that was established in the year 1994 to build, establish, maintain and promote educational institutions, organisations that cater to the needy, viharas amongst other institutions that are based on the ancient Buddhist philosophy of peace, compassion, non violence, tolerance and understanding.

Over the last 18 years, the Siddhartha Vihar Trust has developed the Buddha Vihar and the city of Kalaburgi as a major pilgrimage centre for the devotees of Buddhism from across South India. Lakhs of devotees have been visiting Buddha Vihar every year and in turn this has resulted in increased interest in other Buddhist sites like Sannathi in Kalabrugi which is a place of historic and archaeological importance. The Buddha Vihar has also attracted monks and devotees from countries as far as Sri Lanka, Thailand and Indonesia.

Over a period of time, we are hopeful that the Buddha Vihar will be the pre-eminent place for all aspects of Buddhist philosophy in India. The Pali Institute is one such endeavour on behalf of the trustees of Buddha Vihar to pursue research in Pali, Prakrit and Sanskrit literature so that the current and future generation of students and scholars have access to ancient Indian manuscripts.

We hope to build schools that can teach Sanskrit and Pali to students from an early age so that students stay connected to our roots. The establishment of schools would serve to complement the research work being done at the Pali Institute.

In order to further the objectives of the trust to uplift the lives of the depressed classes, the trust aims to start skill development institutes over the next few years. Such skill development institutes will provide the required practical skills to youngsters to better prepare them for employment opportunities in the industry. This will also ensure that these deprived youth are able to lead a life of self-respect once they are engaged in gainful and formal employment.

We always solicit the kind assistance of every single person towards the development of the Buddha Vihar complex and its allied research activities. We believe that only the kindness and charity of the well meaning would make it possible for us to promote a message of peace, compassion, non-violence and understanding in our society.

All donations to the Siddhartha Vihar Trust are deductible under the section 80(G) of Income Tax Act.
